Why are new DVD releases usually held on Tuesdays?
Major DVD releases, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins and Wedding Crashers, are usually held on Tuesdays. Why is this, and what does it have to due with final box office numbers?

- I don't think DVD/video release dates have anything to do with box office numbers. Tuesday is also the common release day for new CD's as well.
I believe it's a marketing strategy employed to maximize sales in the first week of release. By the way, Tuesday has been the traditional first day of release for some time, and is not reserved for a more important film.
- It has nothing to do with the original box office receipts...it does have everything to to with sales...DVD's are released AFTER the weekend so not to disrupt weekend box office salesand rentals and Tuesdays are they slowest day in retail.
- For the same reason that the release is on Tuesday for Music CDs. It gives the stores time to stock the shelves and clean up after the weekend. It also gives customers a reason to head into the stores during the week.
